Medical Access for Catawba County (MACC)
Our Mission: To coordinate a volunteer network of Catawba County medical providers working together as a "safety net" to deliver chronic disease management for uninsured residents.

Medical Access for Catawba County (MACC) is a community initiative spearheaded by the Catawba County Medical Society and Catawba County Health Partners. A partnership comprised of local medical care providers, area hospitals, colleges, human service agencies and free or reduced healthcare clinics, the MACC program's goals are to: improve health outcomes for uninsured residents, decrease the use of emergency rooms for non-emergenty care by the uninsured, increase primary care and specialty care for uninsured residents and increase volunteerism and collaboration of the health care community.
MACC Patient Eligibility Requirements
- Catawba County resident for 3 consecutive months
- Uninsured adult between the ages of 18 and 64
- Below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level, determined through MACC eligibility screening
- In need of Chronic Disease Management, specifically for COPD, Diabetes, Heart Disease and/or Hypertension by MACC's referring partners.
- Taking medication for any of the above chronic diseases
Patients are required to be referred by one of the following MACC Referring Partners:
- Catawba County Public Health
- Catawba County Social Services
- Catawba Valley Medical Center
- Eastern Catawba Cooperative Christian Ministry
- Frye Regional Medical Center
- Greater Hickory Cooperative Christian Ministry
- Local free and reduced-rate health clinics
- MACC physicians and participating area health care providers
